Our first visit to Siwa Oasis in November 2024 stayed with us. What makes this remote desert sanctuary truly unique isn't just its landscapes - it's the people. We made genuine friends there: Spyros and Nikos welcomed us with such warmth that the moment we returned to Greece, we knew we had to go back.
Just two months later, in February 2025, we found ourselves on a flight to Alexandria. After a day in the coastal city, we made the long journey back to Siwa - this time with no plans at all. We simply wanted to be there again, to reconnect with the place and the people we had met.
There's something about Siwa that stays with you. The oasis has an energy that draws you back. Perhaps it's no coincidence that the Oracle of Amun stands here - an ancient sacred site that has pulled people toward it for centuries.
The images shared here aren't in chronological order, nor do they need explanation. They simply capture fragments of the different experiences you can have in this remote place. From salt lakes that stretch to the horizon to narrow mud-brick alleys, from star-filled desert nights to hidden springs - Siwa holds more than it first shows.
Two visits in such quick succession might seem unusual, but once you've felt Siwa's pull, it makes sense. Some places you visit once and move on. Others you keep returning to. For us, Siwa is the second kind.
